Horizons Children’s Sailing Charity

Adventures

Horizons also provides it’s facilities for special and one-day events.

These can be:

  •   Team-building
  •   Diversity
  •   Disability
  •   Inclusion
  •   Community activities
  •   Educational Training
  •   Respite

or just an adventurous FUN day out for children who otherwise could not experience this sort of activity. Please contact us for details of activities, costs and funding.

Some examples of these activities are as follows....

Duke of Edinburgh

Whilst we do not run full Duke of Edinburgh awards, we can arrange and run water-based expeditions for the awards, such as this group on the right taking their D of E with Devon & Cornwall Police.

The Hawk 20 that they are sailing is reefed down to deal with the strong wind on the day.

Young Carers

Young Carers

On the left is a group from Young Carers of the Year 2009 also out in a Hawk 20 with a safety boat alongside.

This scheme allows young people who are themselves caring for other people to have respite and time-out and have fun in just the sort of activity that they could only otherwise dream about.

In some cases the people that they are caring for also come out with assistance on the day from Horizons volunteers.

Leonard Cheshire

Lenard Cheshire Lenard Cheshire

Groups from the Leonard Cheshire Homes joined us on two occasions in 2009 aboard the Horizons powerboat, Friendship of Plymouth. Ship’s dog, Molly was there on both occasions keeping lookout.

School Days

On the right is a bunch of soggy but happy children from Drake primary school in Plymouth with the breakwater in the background.

They had an ‘Activities’ day out aboard Friendship of Plymouth and gained sea familiarisation along with a learning experience in and around the sound.

Sir Francis himself would have been proud!
