Club Sailing
Every Thursday and Saturday during the sailing season (normally Easter to October ½ term) we hold sailing sessions, giving keen young cadets a chance to learn to sail in Plymouth sound.
We primarily use Pico and Hawk sailing boats supported by R.I.B. inflatables for coaching and, if need be, rescue. Initially children will learn the basics in a Hawk 20 with up to six other cadets and a qualified instructor and then move on to Pico dinghies either paired up with another cadet or on their own.
Sailing is always subject to suitable weather conditions, i.e. wind, tide and temperature, which will be matched to skill level and general ability so that the cadets are always sailing within their capability.
These sailing sessions are aimed at building skills to meet the RYA training awards and there is every expectation that 'regular' cadets will win the awards.
