Horizons is a registered children’s sailing charity, our aims are to help disadvantaged and disabled children from the inner city communities of Plymouth.

We provide learning and educational opportunities that increase self-confidence and improve social and practical skills. We develop awareness of local history and the maritime environment through the experience of water-based activities that would normally be beyond their means.

The charity was formed in April 1991 with the aims of building links with communities, schools and families in areas of social deprivation and isolation due to disadvantage or disability.

Horizons delivers this service by
giving local primary school children the opportunity of learning about their maritime heritage and history by being on the water, giving them a taste of going afloat. We also provide an evening and weekend sailing club for local youngsters (many are very local and walk straight from school).

After some basic instruction, we allow them to partake in recreational sailing using a variety of craft around the local area and in Plymouth Sound, with safety cover provided.
